CORNELL RESEARCH CENTER

Story  | Photo Gallery  | Plant List  | Testimonials  | Back to Celebration Gardens

In the heart of one of the world’s most densely populated areas, three of the most respected names in gardening joined hands to inspire gardeners and celebrate perennial gardening with particular emphasis on creating lovely gardens even in small city spaces.

In August, 2004, this demonstration garden was installed at the Cornell University Long Island Horticultural Research and Extension Center in Riverhead, N.Y., only a commute away from downtown New York City. The program was a joint effort of Blooms of Bressingham, Cornell and the Perennial Plant Association, based on a concept originated by Adrian Bloom.

The garden design and plant selection were determined by Bloom with 1300 plants donated by local growers. As Bloom placed plants, volunteers from the Cornell Master Gardener program and the research center handled the planting. The garden is at the entrance to the Cornell Research Center’s extensive trial gardens and is a teaching garden for the master gardener program. It is also open to the public.

The Cornell site is the second demonstration garden Bloom created in North America, along with six front garden makeovers at private homes, to demonstrate the potential of perennials.
