Very Peri – Pantone’s 2022 Color Of The Year

Geranium Rozanne

Happy 2022! It’s the start of a brand new year and I hope you’re feeling as energized and optimistic as I am! Have you started thinking about the colors you’d like to see in your garden in the spring? Well, to give you a little inspiration, Pantone has announced its 2022 Color Of The Year: Very Peri.

Very Peri is a brand new shade of periwinkle blue (with violet-red undertones) that encourages personal inventiveness and creativity! It embodies energy and new opportunities in 2022, as the world emerges from a challenging season.

“Very Peri displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.”  – Pantone

The Pantone Color Institute has been selecting the Color Of The Year for over 20 years. These color choices reflect current design trends and embody the “spirit of the times.”  Pantone standardizes color swatches for the design industry, which influences product development in many industries, including horticulture!

Very Peri encourages creativity and imagination, which is perfect for garden planning. I hope you’re feeling that creative spirit this year as well! In addition, I have some lovely flower friends to add some Very Peri brightness to your garden in 2022. Read on to learn more!

Very Peri Perennial Flowers

Geranium Rozanne®

Very Peri

It’s me! There’s a reason Geranium Rozanne® is a star in so many gardens. My incredible flower power begins in spring and continues until the first frost. As a result, Rozanne covers garden spaces in stunning 2-1/2 inch blooms–even during the hottest summer days!

And, as autumn arrives and temperatures cool, the mounded, slightly marbled, deep green foliage turns a lovely reddish-brown. Rozanne is great for adding seasonal interest to beds, borders, and containers.

Add Rozanne to your gardens and watch her steal the show!

Eryngium ‘Big Blue’

Very PeriLooking for impressive flowers that continue to add interest to beds and borders once sunny summer days are gone? The spiky foliage and seed heads of Eryngium ‘Big Blue’ provide an impressive show well past its peak bloom time and add interest to the winter landscape. Just imagine how pretty ‘Big Blue’ will look when dusted with snow!

‘Big Blue’ adds great color, height and texture to any garden bed.

Buddleja ‘Butterfly Gold’

Very PeriI love pretty flowers, but I’m also crazy about unique, elegant, colorful foliage. Buddleja ‘Butterfly Gold’ features bright yellow and green variegated foliage that helps this plant stand out even before its blooms appear! With large, purple flower spikes, this fragrant shrub blooms all summer long in full sun or semi-shade!

Geranium Azure Rush®

Geranium Azure RushShe’s a chip off the old block! A sport of the world’s best-selling hardy perennial, Geranium Rozanne, Geranium Azure Rush® features a more compact mounding habit and shorter internodes. Therefore, Azure Rush is a neater and lower-growing plant, earning her the nickname “Rozanne’s smaller daughter.”

Verbena ‘Lollipop’

Very PeriLooking for the perfect perennial to fit in small spaces in your garden? If you love a pretty pop of purple in your garden, try Verbena ‘Lollipop’ for your beds, borders, and containers.

A magnet for bees and butterflies, this dwarf verbena form makes the perfect addition to smaller spaces and container gardens. ‘Lollipop’ stays nicely compact at 24 inches. You’ll love these long-lasting blooms in summer and fall gardens, plus the flowers look lovely in bouquets.
